Chest Implants  – Body Contouring Implants

The body you are born with may or may not have the curves or muscles you desire. In some cases, damage from an accident or certain health conditions can make it difficult to improve in certain areas with exercise alone.

The breast can be augmented with implants alone or with body fat transfers, depending on the changes you desire and your current body fat. Breast implants are designed to change the contours of the breast and increase your appearance and self-confidence.

Chest Implants

Chest implants, also known as subpectoral implants or pectoral implants, are made of soft, solid silicone.

Implants are often chosen to enhance body areas for the following reasons:

  • areas are asymmetrical,
  • an area is not well developed,
  • decreased bone structure and muscle due to a health condition,
  • Loss of volume in an area as part of the normal aging process

Pectoral contouring implants enhance or accentuate the appearance of body contours and muscle volume.

Pectoral Implant Incision and Pocket Formation

This animation will show the most common incision techniques for the pectoral implant procedure. This method, called the transaxillary technique, makes an incision along the natural crease of the armpit.Using an electrocautery device, your doctor carefully cuts horizontally under the skin layers.

And then it moves towards the pectoralis major muscle. A blunt dissector or fingertips are then used to carefully create the beginning of a pocket between the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles.

Your doctor may choose to use an endoscope with the cautery device to fully develop the intramuscular implant pocket. The lower edge of the pocket will remain above the under-breast fold, which is important for maintaining a masculine appearance with implants.

Implant Placement

Silicone breast implants are flexible and allow them to be folded and inserted through the small opening. Your doctor places a sterile implant. And carefully positions the implant to ensure a tension-free fit between the muscle layers.

Placing the implants between existing muscle tissue hides the implants. After the implant is placed, your doctor will confirm that the implant looks natural and that both implants are symmetrical. Drain tubes can be used temporarily. This allows the fluid to leave your body while you heal.

The hole in the muscle pocket is then closed with dissolving sutures for each implant. The skin incision is sutured along the armpit. And then the skin is closed. Finally, after the surgery, bandages are applied to each armpit to provide compression and support.

Pectoral Implant Healing

Your doctor may place you in a compression vest that you will wear for three to four weeks.  This garment helps reduce swelling by preventing fluid buildup while improving blood circulation and supporting the new contours of your breast as you heal.

You can expect some stiffness and swelling in the armpits and chest caused by the incision and stretching of the tissues during the surgery.  Surgical drains are usually removed in about 5 to 1 week. Implants are flexible. But it’s sturdy and will feel like a well-executed pectoral muscle.

While you may feel well enough to return to work and normal activities within 1 to 3 weeks following the procedure, you will need to avoid heavy lifting or exertion that will affect the chest or arm area for about 1 and a half months.

Results

You will immediately notice the results of pectoral implant procedures. Swelling after the procedure may cause the skin to appear shiny at first. However, these swellings decrease within a few weeks. And the skin regains its normal appearance.

As the swelling decreases, the implanted area will look more natural. Implants are placed in such a way that they are unlikely to slip. And the muscle surrounding the implants stretches over the following months to comfortably place the implants.

Scars are hidden increases in hard-to-detect places and fade significantly over time, making them virtually imperceptible. Breast implants can help you achieve the shape, definition and contours you’ve always wanted.
